WAIRARAPA V. NELSON,
The Wairarapa and Nelson hockey j teams met, at Lansdowne, on Satur- < day afternoon. The weather was fine, ( and the ground in good order. The j Wairarapa team played witliout'com- . bination, and the shooting of the forwards left much to b<3 desired. Though Wairarapa won by one goal to nil honours were even. Nelssn ! lost several good chances to score 1 through bad hitting. The visitors ' played a better passing game than * the home team, and their all-round ; defence was superior. ;Wairarapa's play was mainly of the individual Wairarapa's back division, with the exception of Hall and Boyd, did not play up to form. To Hall the h.ome team owe much, as he repeatedly staved off'tbe desperate attacks of Staples. La Mottee and Boyce. Waiiarapa played with the sun at their backs in the first spell. Play was vfcry fast at times, and both sides had their turn at defending. The spall ended without any score. " ; On resuming Wair&rapa attacked for a time, but Le ( Mottee, Dee and cleared the line and put Wairarapa on the defensive. Some exciting play in the home circle was followed by Donald clearing. Both sides made desperate attempts to score after this, Wairarapa sustaining a determined attack for some time. It, was npt till just before the call of j time that Rue shot a goal for Wai-rarnp-i after Nelson had been defending for so.rte minutes. Though the visitors tried hard to equalise the score they were unable to do so, and the game ended in a win for Wairarapa by one goal to nil. Mr S. A. Noble-Campbell was referee.
