THE NELSON HOCKEY TEAM.

SMOKE CONCERT. Last evening the Nelson Hockey representatives, who are touring the North Island, were entertained by the members of the Wairarapa Hockey Association at a smoke concert in the Arcadia Tea Rooms. The chair was occupied by Mr A. C. Major, the President of the Wairarapa Hockey Association. . After the toast of the King had been honoured, the Chairman proposed the toast of he Nelson Representative Hockey Team. He was pleased to extend a weclome to the visitors to Masterton, and hoped tne game with Wairarapa would be keenly contested, more especially as there was every prospect of fine weather. The manager of the Nelson team (Mr H. J. Savage) thankdd the President of the Wairarapa Association for the hearty welcome extended to them. He hoped that the match between Wairarapa and Nelson would be keenly contested. Speaking in regard to referees, Mr Savage said that his Association had always been in favour of what was termed the two-referee system —vzi., one refeiee controlling the first spell and a different referee having charge of the second spell. He was pleased to see that the local Association had adopted this system in connection with the forthcoming match. Mr J. B. Le Mottee, captain of the visiting team, also briefly responded, and said that they regretted not being able to stay longer in Masterton. His team was in good form, and could promise Wairarapa a good game. The Chairman proposed the toast of the Referees, and Mr S. A. NobleCampbell, in reply, adversely criticised the two referee system, but, at the same time, if Nelson wished for wo referees he was in favour of their wish being acceded to. The captain of the Nelson team stated that in regard to Mr Noble-Campbell's remarks, that tha Nelson team were quite willing to place the sole control of the game in the hands of Mr Noble-Campbell.

[Other toasts honoured were:—"The Ladies," proposed by Mr A. C. Pragnell, and responded to by Messrs B. Chisholm, A. Crowdes and B. Brown; "Star Spangled Banner," proposed by the Chairman; "The Chairman," proposed by Mr G. Carley, arid responded to by Mr A. C.Major; "The Hostesses," proposed by Mr A. C.
