Miss Dulcie Deamer, of Featherston, lett Wellington, yesterday on a irip to India. Miss "0. McFarlane, formerly of the Gladstone School, has been transferred to the Worser Bay School. James Harrison, a well-known Whangarei merchant, has announced himself as a candidate for the'Marsden seat. He describes himself as a pronounced Liberal and a supporter of the present Government. Mr A. E. Rees, who has filled the position of honorary general secretary of the Masterton Y.M.C.A., has accepted a position in Wellington which will necessitate him resigning. Since his stay in Masterton Mr Rees has made a very large circle of friends, who will regret to hear of his departure, which will be towards the end of the month. A Press Association telegram from Auckland states that Mr John McLaußhlan, M.P. for Ashburton, who came to Auckland by the Parliamentary train, la3t Saturday evening, to participate in the welcome to the American fleet, has, *ince his arrival, been seriously ill, and now lies in a critical condition at the hospital, suffering from pneumonia. Inquiries made last evening elicited the information that the member for Ashburton'n condition was unchanged.
