HOCKEY.
LADIES' TOURNAMENT. A seven aside tournament was held under the auspices of the Wairarapa Ladies' Hockey Association at Lansdowne yesterday afternoon. Seven teams competed and some very interesting games resulled. Owirg to length of the game between High School and Hinemoa darkness prevented the final being played. The following are the rtsulls of the games: — FIRST ROUND. Garry Owen beat Glengarry (winning with a corner hit). Referee, Mr B. Iveson. Kia Toa beat Huia A by 2 goals to nil. Misses Z. Humphries and J. Bicknell scored the goals for Kia Toa. Referee, Mr B. Iveson. High School beat Huia B by one goal to nil. Miss C. MeKenzie scored for the winners. Referee, Mr F. Richards. In the by-match, Hinemoa defeated Glengarry by one goal to nil. Referee, Mr J. Gray. -, SECOND ROUND. Kia Toa beat Garry Owen by 2 goals to nil. Misses J. Bicknell and E. Bicknell scored for Kia Toa. Keferee, Mr F. Richards. High School beat Hinemoa, (winning with a corner hit). Referee, Mr J. Gray. ; Mr L. Nicol wa3 time-keeper.
HAWKE'S BAY DEFEAT NELSON. BY Til/EQEAriT —PRESS ASSOCIATION. NAPIER, August 13. Trie hockey match between the Nelson and Hawke's Bay teams was played this afternoon on a muddy field. Hawke's Bay wen by one goal to nil. Play was even in the first spell, but Hawke's Bay had the best of the second spell.
NELSON v. WAIRARAPA
The match between Wairarapa and Nelson will be played at Lansdowne at 1.30 p.m. on The Nelson team will be chosen from the following players: —J. Le Mottee (captain), P. C. Hurst. A. Manks, M. Staples, K. Walker, J. Boyce, F. Taylor, G. King, A. Dee, C. Spear, B/Chisholm, A. Ryder, A. Crondis. The Wairarapa team is as follows : Hall (goal), Morgan and Boyd (backs), Sievers, Donald and Richards (halves), Hooper and Minett (wings), Gray, Fisher and Rue (forwards). The Nelson team will arrive this afternoon by thi train from Napier, and will be accommodated at the Central Hotel. T .n the evening the visitors will be entertained by the local players at the Arcadia tea rooms. All hockey players, especially the representative team, are requested to attend this function, which will commence at 7.30 o'clock. The Carterton B team defeated Greytown, at Greytown. yesterday afternoon, by 4 goals to nil. The goals were scored by A. Dudson (3) and D. Pulsford (1). Mr J. O'Meara was referee.
FOOTBALL. WELCH FAMILY v. W.F.C.A. An interesting match was played on the Showgrounds yesterday afternoon, between the Welch Family and the W.F.C.A. The former had the best of the game, and won by the comfortable margin of 8 points to 3. For the winners, K. Welch scored two tries, one of which B. Welch converted. For the losers, H. Whitt scored a try.
In the evening the losers entertained the winners at a social in the Exchange Hall, and a very enjoyable time was spent.
The match, Carterton Rovers against Dalefield Juniors, played on the reserve at Carterton, yesterday, resulted in a draw, both teams scoring 6 points each. A match wa* played on the Schoolground at Carterton, yesterday afternoon, between the Old Boys and the High School teams. The High School team proved victorious. by three points to nil. Mr E. McKenzie was the referee.
The following will represent the Fire Brigade, in a match with Carswells, on Saturday, August 15th:— Jackson, McEwen, O'Leary, McKellar, Duggan, Darvill, Adams, Barry, Chapman, King, Fielding. Jenkins, Beere, Selby, Allen, Elder. The drag will leave the Fire Station at 12.45 sharp.
