THE STEAMER HAWEA.
TAIL SHAFT' BROKEN. BT TELEGRAPH—PRESB ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, August 12. The Union Company has received advice that the Hawea broke a tail shaft on July 30th, near Norfolk Island.
Received August 13, 12.50 a.m. SYHNEY, August 12. The Moana, which sailed to-night, has neen fitted with a crowe's nest, and has taken an extra supply of rockets. She will keap a sharp lookout for the Hawea. When she reaches the vicinity of Lord Howe Island she will make a zig-zag course. The opinion l is expressed here that the Hawea will drift northerly, and that the Tafua, en route from Fiji, will have the best chance of picking the Hawea up. The Hawea has five weeks' supplies on board. The names of the crew that shipped at Newcastle are:—Captain, Charles Read; first officer, B. Irwin; second mate, K. Williamson; third imte, W. Cossentine;' seamen, Manifold, Carmase, Lynch, McCrae, McCall, Pearce, Coleman, Fitzgerald; chief engineer, J. McLean; second engineer, A. Gorman; third engineer, F. Litson; firemen, Pryke, McKay; trimmers, Ruddy, Donovan, H. Thomas- greasers,. Frank Chumley, McL«od; stewards, Muore Cooper, Cootes, Sutherland, Cockle.
