THE "SPECTATOR" ON THE COBDEN CLUB. j. Received August 12, 8.12 a.m. LONDON, August 11. The "Spectator," in a remarkable article, condemns the Cobden Club for neglecting to maintain Cobden's principles in not opposing the Trades Dispute and Eight Hours Bills, and for not protesting against the Commons' Homework Committee's recommendations of Wages Boards, and the extinction of parasite industries paying small wages. The journal also blames the club for neglecting to oppose non-con-tributory old age pensions, which it declares will enormously increase taxation and pave the way for protective tariff.
