FINANCE COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Finance Committee was held at noon, Crs Welch, Morris, Kebbell, Miller, Harris and Colquhoun, being present. The Treasurer reported the general account to be in debit £2,281 Os 4d; local bodies' loan account, credit, £0(50 12s lOd; receipts for month, £2,003 6s Bd. It was decided to add the amount of £l7 Is 6d, claimed by Messrs Evans and Miller for extra metal delivered on the Upper Plain and Branch road, to the pay-sheet. It was decided to have a survey made of the ground required for a gravel pit at Te Ore Ore with a view to payment of Messrs Percy Bros, for the same. An application from Mr S. Connell for extras on his formation and metalling contract on the East Coast road was held over till the next meeting of the Council. An account from the Master ton Implement Company for repairing and filling metal boxes on Harding's waggon for gravelling on the Mata-
hiwi road was referred to Mr Daniell for settlement, the Council recognising no liability. It was resolved that the attention of the ranger be called to the fact that a large number of cows were permitted to wander at large on County roads about Lansdowne and elsewhere. Cr Miller moved, and Cr Morris seconded, that Mr Waddington's claim be settled in accordance with the opinion given by the Council's solicitor. The motion was carried. It was decided that owing to the danger arising from the fact that the gate in tne footpath fence between the two Waipoua bridges, giving access to the land in occupation of Mrs J. Ewington, beiqg frequently ! left open, the Engineerbe instructed to remove fhe same.
