FOOTBALL.

The Rover Football Club (Hastings) have apologised for their action in refusing to play a recen 1 ; fixture on account of their objection to a certain referee, and the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union, to-night, accepted the apology and removed the suspension. The Rovers will be represented in the Hawke's Bay team to play Horowhenua on Saturday.

The team remained in Auckland in order to view the Fleet festivities. THE MAORI TEAM. MORE ThOUBLTJ. .Received August 12, 1.50 a.m. SYDNEY, August 11. The R.:jby League has decided not to allow its players to participate in the Maori benefit match, and threaten;: to disqualify any who do. The chosen team includes several League players, who have declared their determination to take part in the match. AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. AUCKLAND, August 11. The following have been chosen to represent Auckland against Wellington on Saturday next:—Fullback, Renwick; three-quarters, Wilson, Murray, Johnson; five-eighths, Bater and Magee; half, Morse; wing, Gillett; forwards, M'Guire, Herring, Francis, Cunningham, Nicholson, Seeling, Hayward. EmergenciesBacks, Cote and Winder; forwards, Maguire and Young. An Invercargill correspondent writes:—From Invercargill I learn that the latest development in Northern Union football is a proposed tour of the Dominion of a Southland team, playing Otago, Canterbury, Wellington and Auckland under Northern Union rules. The matches are said to be as good as arranged. The team will probably leave within a fortnight, and will play on an amateur basis, with payment for loss of wages. The members of the Masterton Association Club will not hold a practice at Lansdownp, to-morrow. The Tukapa Junior team (champion of Taranaki) have been on a visit to Masterton during the past two days prior to leaving for Napier to-day. It was originally intended that the Red Star Juniors, winners of the Wairarapa Championship, should play Tukapu, but owing to the Wairarapa Junior renrer.entative team going on tour the match had to be cancelled. Mr F. Moverley is manager of the visitors' team, and the Secretary of the Club (Mr Webster) also accompanies the team.
