FATAL EXPLOSION.
TWO MEN KILLED. TWO OTHERS INJURED. Bt TBIjEjIIAPM—PitSSS ASS IOtATION. GORfcJ, Augut P. A fatal accident occurre.l this morning on the water race being constructed for the Muddv Creek t luicing Company, about twelve miles from Waikaia.
Last night a charge of pi lignite was exploded about 9.30. 'lo-daj James Lindsay, Joseph Tonnezzy, Samuel Crawford and Henry were clearing away the dearis, when Tnnnezzy noticed a portion of the charge. Lindsay removed most, but some remained in the rock. He took a pick to clear away thp rock, when an explosion immediately orcurrfd, as he must have struck the explosive. Lindsay and Tonnezzy were kilkd instantaneously. Henry Crawford and arother man named Kennedy were tomiwhat severly injured. Lindsay was shatter-''! almost beyond recognition. Both le.'S wie broken, and one 1 and was also blown off. Tonnezzy's injuries appeared to be in the chest.
The injured m*'i> were immediately attended, and no serious results are anticipated. Lindsay was a native of Zccban, Tasmania, and Tonnezzy win of Italian parentage. He was born in Dalesford, Victoria, Both men were single.
