THE DANGERS OF MOTOR TRAFFIC.
| As was only to be expected, the numerous accidents that have I occurred for some time past in England through motor traffic has resulted in an Anti-Motorist League being formed with the object of 'checking reckless driving. The motor traffic, which includes motor-omni-buses, motor cars and cycles, has de-
veloped to such a degree of magnitude in the busy centres at Home that the question of control is a very difficult one. With all the regulations in force for restricting speed, motor vehicles were responsible for over 10,000 accidents in the London streets last year, which is certainly a most alarmingrecord. In addition to the lives that m are endangered by this new form ot traffic that has sprung into existence so quickly it is claimed that the smoke from the burnt fjel of the motor is also a serious menace to public health. Apparently from the numerous accidents thifc occurred last year the police are incapable of regulating the spesd of motors, and it is just at this stage that the authorities should take the matter up seriously. There is no doubt that motor traffic can only be regulated by the°establishment of an efficient system. At present it would appear that the safest place for a person in the busy streets is on a motor vehi cle, and that as soon as he climbs down and plays pedestrian his lifejs in constant danger.
