DAIRY SALE.

Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd.. report as follows:—Mr S. R. , Lancaster's annual sale of dairy cows was held on Wednesday, August sth. when 163 cows and 25 heifers werj 'offered singly, and every lot was disposed of under the hammer at satisfactory prices. The weather was moat unfavourable, one of the worse days during the winter being experienced, and this no doubt prevented numerous buyers from attending. The attendance was, however, large, j and buyers from outside districts j tui ncd up an -good force. The popu laiity of these sales becomes more apparent each year, and buyers were present from Wanganui, Pahiatua, Wcodville, Manawatu Line, and all tl* surrounding districts. The ar- j rangements for the conduct of the sale were excellent, and reflect the greatest credit on Mr Lancaster. The cows' were sold under cover, and buyers appreciated the shelter from the rain and cold winds. The sale opened with the cows in milk (23 in number), and these wpre keenly competed lor, and sold at prices ranging from £7 to £lO. The springers were a particularly ni e lot, being mostly Jersey and Grade Jertey, and it was socn apparent that these were the cows buyers were after, bidding at times being particularly keen. Short-' horn cows were not so much in demand, and on several occasions firstclass Shorthorn cows were knocked down at very low prices. The whole herd of IS3 cows averaged £7 Is per head; sixty of I he best cows averaged £3 14s 3d. The twenty-five heifers tmade from £3 17s 6d to £7 10s, and • averaged £5 83. Jersey bulls made from £lO 10s to £l2.
