At the annual meeting of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club, to-day, the report stated that the mortgage of £4,000 was paid off, and the .racecourse and buildings were now free from encumberance. The money paid in stakes last year was £7,490, being an increase of £970 on the amount paid the previous year. The profit and loss account disclosed a piofit of £2,239. Sir William Russell was re-elected president.

EXMOOR SCRATCHED.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 6. 'Exmoor was scratched this morning for all engagements at the Grand National meeting.

At the meeting of the Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club, held last Saturday, a plan and design for their proposed new grandstand, executed _ by Mr F. Edward Lamb, architect, Arwas placed before them for tneir consideration. The whole of the plans comprise a most modern scheme throughout. The grandstand, which is approached by two separate stairta.es of easy access, situated in front cf the building, shows accommodation for over 1,000 persons. Underneath the stand is situated a large public dining room, a tea room, al. o sejatate Stewards' dining room, all ot'which are placed in a most convenient position handy to a large kitchen anil scullery, which are both fitted up with all necessary cooking requirements. Ladies and gentlemen's separate cloak rooms and lavatories are shown in quite distinct positions'. The bar is placed in a position most convenient to the general public, and connectod with the •Stewards' dining loom, and ccntair.s ample accommodation. There are also provided two offices for the Stewards and the Secretary. The elevation of the building is of a most substantial and solid nature, and possess a very striking and handsome appearance generally. The design shows the building to be erected <e itirely of wood, with a well-propor-tioned tile roof.
