MASTERTON LAWN TENNIS CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT,

The following is the report of the committee of the above Club for the past year:—Your committee have much pleasure in presenting the following report on the working of the Club during the past season: —

That the popularity of the Club i 3 still retained is shown liy the fact that its "membership is steadily increasing, and has now reached the respectable total of 150, of whom about 100 are on the active list. A glance at the accompanying bal-ance-sheet shows the Club to be on a thoroughly sound financial besis, the balance of assets over liabilities being set down at £B7 7s 3d. A rather unusual feature in this year's balance-sheet is the large amount of members' subscriptions shown to be at present outstanding. This, however, is largely owing to the fact that the annual meeting this year is being held fully two months earlier than on previous occasions, the alteration being made in compliance with the amended rules of the Provincial Association. In January last the Club's 13th annual open championship meeting and handicap tournament was held, and notwithstanding the fact that a similar tournament was taking place at Dannevirke on the same dates proved in ev<n*y way a complete success. In this connection the thanks of the Club are due to the following for amounts kindly donated in aid of the prize fund, viz.Rev. Dean McKenna, £2 2s: Miss Powdrell, £2 2s; W.F.C.A., £1 ss; and Mr F. Dupre £1 Is. During the year four matches with other clubs were played, two against the Thorndon Lawn Tennis Club, Wellington, both of which were lost; one against Carterton (won), and one against Woodville-Pahiatua, also won. Your committee wish to take this opportunity of heartily thanking the lady members of the Club for th-i afternoon teas so liberally provided by them during the season, and in this connection desire to place on record their great appreciation o( the valuable services rend.red by Miss Wolff in the organising of those most enjoyable functions.—On behalf ot the committee, N. D. Bunting, Hon. Sec.
