A TRYING EXPERIENCE.
barque in a gale. Received August 6, 11.55 p.m. SYDNEY, August 6. The German barque Josela, which is anchored off Fiona Beach, near the Seal Rocks, and is dismasted, encountered a gale off Lord Howe Island. It increased in fury as the coast was approached. A tremendous sea struck the vessel on Monday night, ana the ballast, consistii gcf nebbleij, shifted to the starboard. The rail went unoer and the keel was showing. The masls were cut away. The crew worked below for fifty hours, trying to get the ballast hack, but it proved terrible stuff to control. The men h-ad nothing to cat all that time but bread and raw salt pork. When two miles off the shore the anchors were rut off and held the vessel till they w*re rescued.
