MASTERTON RACING CLUB.
ANNUAL REPORT
The following is the annual report of the Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club for the year ended June 30th. 1908 Commencing the year with a credit balance of £73 5s Id, the funds of the Club at the end of the financial year show a credit balance, at the Bank, of £99 Is Id. During the year the balance of the debentures of £l5O has been paid off, and the sum of £368 odd has been spent in alterations and improvements to the course. A new number board has been erected, and a complete set of numbers for the judge's box has also been obtained. The Stewards beg to recommend for the consideration of the incoming Stewards the advisability of erecting another grandstand and further accommodation for the horses at the racecourse. The sum of £2,500 has been given away in stakes for the two meetings. The racing tracks are in capital order, mainly owing to the care and attention given by the custodian, Mr H. Welch. The annual meeting will be held in the Exchange Buildings on Thursday 20th August, at 2.30 p.m., when the members will be called upon to elect the usual officers of the year. Thirteen meetings of the Stewards were held during the year, and the following shows the attendance: —W Cooper, 12, J. Cress 12, J. lorns 12, W. Piatt 12, A. J. Welch 12, D. McLachlan U. R. Buick 10, C. A. Pownall 10, C. U. Smith 10, C. F Vallance 10, J. Macara 9, D. Caselherg 8, W. lorns is, A. G. Pilmer 8, O. C. Cooper 7, A. Reside's, W. D. Watson 5. Members are reminded of the following resolution carried at a previous annual meeting, "That in future the nominated officers of the Club shall be elected by members present at the annual meeting, no voting paper to be issued except at the meeting"; and "that no members will be allowed to vote at the annual meeting who are in arrears with their subscriptions."
