OUR PUBLIC LIGHTING.

The Gas Manager reported to the Council on Tuesday that among other extensive general improvements and extensions the Queen Street arc lamps had been fitted with the automatic controllers for lighting and extinguishing. Masterton and Lansdowne are illumined by one hundred and fifty lamps, and now only nine remain to be fitted with these ingenious labour-saving devices, Mr Blackman is the most progressive gas manager Masterton has had, and he is to be complimented on the economical administration he strives for. The new appliances will not only be gas favers, but will do away with the cumbrous and expensive system of hand-lighting and extinguishing.
