EARTHQUAKES AND INSURANCE COMPANIES.
AN APPEAL DISMISSED. Received August 5, 9.50 p.m. LONDON, August 5. The Privy Council refused to reverse the judgment of the Supreme Court of Jamaica, relating to claims prising out of the earthquake at Kingston, some time ago. The Scottish Union National Fire Insurance Company contended that the fires were caused by the earthquakes, making the exemption clause applicable. The respondents contended that the fires were accidental The appeal was consequently dismissed. The decision of the Privy Council was received in Kingston with demonstrations of joy.
