PROHIBITIVE PRICE OF EUTTER

Received August 5, 12 37 a.m. ■ MELBOURNE, August 4. The high price of; butter has made it prohibitive to the poorer classes, and the consumption has fallen by a fifth. It is believed that next month the Victorian production will increase sufficiently to meet ordinary consumption.

SIGHT TESTING,

NO NEW SOUTH WALES ACT.

Received August 5, 12.37 a.m. SYDNEY, August 4. The attention of some of the leading opticians has been called to a paragraph in a Wellington paper of July 13th, stating that chemists intend to ask the Government to introduce a Sight Testing Bill on the lines of the New South Wales Act of 1906. There is, however, no such Act on the New South Wales Statute Book. A Bill was introduced into Ihe Council but failed to get beyond the first reading stage.
