THE PARIS STRIKE.

ARREST OF LABOUR ANARCHISTS. GENERAL STRIKE ANNOUNCED. Received August 3, 8.35 a.m. PARIS, August 2. As a sequel to the recent rioting the police raided the French Labour Confederation headquarters and ar rested eighteen prominent Labour Anarchists, whereupon the' Trade Union secretaries appoint 3d a new directing committee, which announced a general twenty-four hours' strike on Monday as a protest against the killing of strikers on Thursday. The Government is determined to prevent the proposed strike.

THE .STRIKE. SPREADING.

Received August 3, 9.50 p.m. PARIS, August 3. Owing to the members of the Compositors and Printers' Unions striking in obedience to the orders of the Labour Confederation, manj Paris papers were not published to-day. Several other t>ade3 have also stiuck. The Socialist Committee accuse the Government of murdering workers. The chief organ of the Confederation publishes a cartoon showing M. Clemenceau's h*ad on a pike under the title of "The Assassin." Many wild appeals are made to resort to violence, but the general community urges the Government to vigorously defend law and order.,
