MASTERTON BOWLING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS.
The annual meeting of members of Masterton Bowling Club was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening, Mr 0. Pragnell (President) being in the. chair About thirty members were present. The President first made the presentation of trophies won by members during the past season, accompanying each presentation with a felicitous speech. The winners ere as follows: -Mr G. Townsend, champion singles; (Grady gold medal); Messrs T. Cresawell and Joh'i Hunter (skip and lead respectively of pairs championship), gold medals; T. J. Thompson (handicap singles). The Chairman, in -noving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet (already published), said he thought the past year had been one of the mest successful and enjoyable in the hislory of the Club. He said the system adopted regarding friendly games had done a very great deal in the interests of young players, and mentioned that the present year marked the entrance of the Club into its tenth year of existence. Mr Pragnell invited full and free discussion of the matters contained
in the balance-sheet, on account of the important propositions therein. He- traversed shortly the financial position of the Club, in support of the Committee's recommendations to raise the subscription and make a levy of £1 Is to wipe off the deficit in the Club's working, of the past three years. Mr J. M. Coradine seconded the adoption of the report, supporting the remarks of the Chairman regarding the increase of subscriptions and the levy proposition Mr A. McEwen said that he considered that a loss rather than a gain would accrue to the Club as a result of an increase of subscription, and the making of a levy. He criticised the treatment meted out to Saturday players, contending that they had not received the same benefits last season as the Thursday players. Mr J. C. Ewington said he was also opposed tu the adoption of the report as read, believing also that a loss would result. He moved as an amendment that the proposition to raise a levy be deleted. Th : s was seconded by Mr J. Scott. After considerable discussion the amendment was lost and the report was afterwards adopted unanimously. The President then thanked members coidially for their hearty cooperation during the pa.it year, and nominated as his successor Mr J. M. Coradine.
Mr Ewington seconded the nomination. Mr Coradine "was elected without opposition and duly returned thanks. The other officers elected were as follows:—Vice-presidents, Messrs F. J. Duprc and E J. Rose (unopposed) ; hon. treasurer, Mr E. Richards (re-elected); hon. secretary, Mr C. D. King (re-elected); management committse, Messrs R. Rigg, 0. Pragnell, J. Hunter, J. C. Ewington and J. Scott; selection committee, Messrs E. R. Cameron, J. Scott and 0. Pragnell; auditor, Mr C. Perry. Mr F. Grady, of Wellington was unanimously re appointed the Club's representative on the Northern Bowling Association. Several matters regarding the conduct of matches and the management of the green were then debated at length Mr J. Hunter intimated that he would donate a trophy for competition next season.—The offer was accepted with thanks. Messrs C. J. Ashton and D. Walsh were elected now member.
