A TELEPHONIC ADVANCE.
Anothtr achievement to show that Masfcerton is to the fore in Iho matter of progress 1 After a start but active cai.vbss among subset iU'is to the Macterton Telephone Exchange the requisite number of signatures has been obtainej to the agreement to pay an extra £1 fea in order t'int a continuous service might be established. The names havy been duly submitted to the postal authorities, and when approved the new service will,no doubt, be inaugurated as early as possible afterwards. To Mr J. D. Cruickshank is due in a very great measure the success of this movement, as he has spent'a great deal of time in securing signal arcs to the petition. The full measure of convenience which the continuous service means will not be properly realised until it has been inaugurated. It will be found to be ono of those blessings which, when once subscrib ers have experienced it, will causi them to ask of themselves, "Why did we not have it long ago?' :
