Sir Gilbert Parker, M.P. for Gravesend, has been selected, through the Board of Trade, .to make enquiries in Germany regarding Article 26 of the fundamental subsidy contract with the North German Lloyd Company, made in 1898. This does not apply to the mail service between Gex*man New Guinea and Australia. In other words, the colony is dependent upon a port near at hand —especially Sydney—for products which would deteriorate, or be too expensive in transit from Germany, such as corn, vegetables, flour, live cattle, meat, fish, wood tor building, and salt. Received July 29, 12.15 a.m. BRISBANE, July 28. The Acting Premier has been advised that Mr Kidston's negotiations with the Bank of England resulted in the reduction of the charges in connection with the management of the Queensland loans to the extent of £2,500 per annum on the existing loans, and a similar amount per million on future flotations.
