STEALING CARGO.
HEAVY SENTENCES,
BY TKLEQRAriI—PKEBB ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND* July 27. At the Magistrate's Court, Eugene Ross and John Harris were convicted of stealing cargo of the value of £25 from the steamer Tomoanh. The prisoners, who, deserted here, were arrested in Wellington with some of the stolen goods in their possession. The Magistrate stated that this class of offence must be put down with a firm hand, and imposed a sentence of twelve months' imprisonment. It was stated during the hearing that during the past five years the Tyser Company had paid £5,110 in claims for loss by pillage. .
