A SENSATIONAL INCIDENT.
EXCITING TIME FOR BRITISHFOOTBALLERS.
BY TELEOEAPH —PHESB ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, July 27. A somewhat sensational incident occurred just as the Victoria was leaving for Sydney this evening with the British footballers. One of the latter was leaning over the rail of the steamer to shake hands with one of the Aucklanders and fell .overboard. Instantly two of the latter jumped overboard, one of whom cadght hold of him. Ropes were at once thrown and the three men were hauled up on to the wharf. Just then another of the English team fell overboard, and two more, it is oelieved, went into the water after him. He was rescued with one of those who went after him. It is stated that the third man wl.en coming up the rope fell back into the water. The police were dragging in the vicinity up to a late hour tonight, but without result. All the Englishmen are accounted for, because before the steamer left a musteivon deck was made.
