A RACE ?E RUN.

Received July 27, 8.30 a.m. LONDON, July 26. Halwsell (ofr'Britain) ran over the 400 metres (437.2yd5) course, 1 but the two Americans declined to re-run the race.

According t:> a cablegram published yesterday morning there was a great sensation over the running of the final in the 400 metres race. Carpenter, the American, bored and elbowed Halswell (Britain) almost off the track, and the judges broke the tape, and declared i the' race void. They subsequently disqualified Carpenter, and ordered the other three men in the final to race on Saturday in strings.
