FOOLISH CRITICISM.
A Wellington paper, the "Dominion," in its issue uf yesterday, discussing the state of the present session of Parliament, remarks:—"There has been an abundance of petty details, and a great flood of talk. But, the prime function of Parliament is, after all, to pass laws. Legislation should keep pace with talk." We do' not quite know what the "Dominion" means, and if the truth must be told we do not think" the paper itsylf knows what it is talking about. Again and again complaint has been made, and the "Dominion" has been to the fore since its recent birth in complaining that the country is over legislated. Bere is one ponderous sentence, "Legislation should keep pace with talk." That is the whole sentence, with all its sense, and what utter bosh it is. No man, woman or child in this country* could succeed in perceiving the faintest tinge of common sense in such a weighty remark. By all means let the "Dominion" adversely criticise the Government's administration- that administration provides many reasons for just complaint—but in eternally abusing the Government and in always abusing all the politicians, the "Dominion" overstrains itself, and at times cuts a most ridiculous figure by publishing an,utter absurdity, as for instance, when it gravely declares that "Legislation should keep pace with talk."
