WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held •at the County officeß, Carterton, on .Saturday. Thdre were present—Cra Wm. ferry (in the chair), R. G. Welch, Geo. Stevens, T. V. Moore, P. Court, D. Douglas, H. S. :. Mason, and J. Strang. An apology for absence was received from Cr Barrer. The treasurer reported as follows: —Dr balance at Bank of New Zealand, £1,315 9s lOd; receipts since last meeting, £355 12s lid. A letter waa received from Mr P. Crewe, asking permission to take a few loads of gravel from the Council's pit at Gladstone, to metal the entrance to his gate. It was decided to write to Mr Crewe, pointing out that the Council does not allow metal to be taken from its pits, for the purpose of being applied to private use. Mr Laney, solicitor, waited on the Council in support of an application from Wi Whatakorari, to erect a gate across the road at Te Wharau, "* near Messrs Barren and York's property. Mr C. A. Pownall, solicitor, of Masterton, who represented those i e tiers who objected ta the gate in qjestion being erected, also waited on the Council. After the matter had been discussed at considerable length it was decided not to grant permission for the gate to ba erected. 3f letter was received from the Wairarapa Pastoral an 1 Agricultural Society, stating that the Council had Taeen inadvertantly omitted with reaspect to being to appoint a delegate to attend the meeting held at Greytown on Friday last, to consider Mr W. C. Buchanan's offer of £6,000 for an experimental farm in «the Wairarapa. The letter stated, However, that another meeting to consider the offer would be held shortly, and the Council was now •aaked to appoint a delegate. Jt wa3 resolved that Crs Welch and Stevens represent the Council. A complaint was received . from Mr P. Sexton with respect to cattle straying on the roads at Gladstone. It was decided that the ranger should be instructed to pay visits to Gladstone more frequently. The Roads Department wrote stating tha*. it had been decided to allow the Waiohine footbridge at Dalefield to remain, providing that the bridge is kept in repair by Mr G. Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, M.P., wro'e stating that he, had applied for the •amount of cost of a swing bridge ■over "the Waingawa River, Block xiv, Miki Miki Survey District,'to be re-erected by the Government. Cr Moore moved "That the resolution passed at the meeting of the •Council held on May 30th, cancelling Messrs J. and N. Cadwalladers* con tract for metalling on Wangaehu Valley Road, bd rescinded." The motion was seconded by Cr Welch and carried. Accounts amounting to £330 2s :9J were passed for payment.
