THE MONO-RAIL SYSTEM.
THE DUKE OF ARGYLL IMPRESSED.
Recei/ed July 24, 8.8 a.m. LONDON, July 23. The Duke of Argyll inspected at Woodlands, Gillingham, Chatham, the mono-rail, the invention of Mr Louis Brennan, C.B. His Grace was much impressed by what he saw.
Mr Brennan is a Melbourne man, but has been resident in England as a member of the Admiralty staff for fifteen or sixteen years. He invented the Brennan torpedo, which is fired and guided from land, and has been used in harbour defence. Since the development of the submarine boat, however, the stenrable torpedo is not so valuable a weapon as it was, and a year ago it was reported that the factory where it was m*de had beer, closed. It waj reported at the time he took his invention Home that he had received £120,000 from the Ad-, miralty for it and a permanent appointment. His mono-rail system was exhibited to the Premiers in London last year. The gyroscope is an arrangement for maintaining tli2 equilibrium of the car as it runs on the single rail. '
