DUTY ON IMPORTED TIMBER.

WELLINGTON, July 23
In reference to the agitation by sawmillers for an increased duty on imported timber, the Council of the New Zealand Institute of Architects has written to the Minister of Customs embodying the following resolu-ton:-—"That the New Zealand Institute of Architects views with regret an attempt on the part of sawmillers and others to obtain any increase in duties on imported timber because its success would increase the cost of building and ket'p out of the Dtminion a most useful and in many cases indispensable material."
