FURTHER REDUCTIONS NOT CONTEMPLATED. Received July 22, 8.10 a.m. LONDON, July 21. In the House of Lords, the Earl of Crewe, Secretary of State for the Colonies, said that no further reductions in the army were contemplated by the Government. Lord Crewe added that the Government were making enquiry regarding general expenditure, but that the enquiry was not being confined to any one department.
A CABINET CRISIS
MR HALDANE'S SUPPORTERS GAIN A NARROW MAJORITY.
« Received July 22, 9.36 p.m. LONDON, July 22 The "Daily Express" states that a Cabinet crisis, which threatened the resignation of four Ministers with perhaps the entire Army Council, has ended in the defeat of the section desirous of reducing the Army to the barest proportions. Mr Haldane's supporters gained a narrow majority.
