SPECIAL LAND SETTLEMENT.
One of the great arguments urged by the Opposition in favour of allowing Crovvi. tenants to convert their holdings into freeholds was the fact that the money thus set free would be available for the purchase and subdivision of fresh estates without resorting to the money-lender. Now that Ministers have so far admitted the soundness of the principle, remarks the Christchurch "Press," they may in time become wholehearted converts to the freehold view.
