MAORIS DEFEATED

Although Britain's score was big, it in no way indicated that the game was one-sided, the Maoris holding their own throughout brilliantly. Britain's backs were responsible for the big sscore. The second spell proved more disastrous for the Maori. y as four tries were uddtd to Britain's credit, two being conv-'rteJ. tries were scored by Jones, Griffiths, McEvedy and
Dyke. McEvedy converted two. Towards the closing stajes of the game Jackett was from getting in his kick, and losing possession of the ball Kira rushed and raced for the line, neck and nsck with the Britisher, and scored near the corner, wild excitement greeting the effort. Kira was carried shoulder high by the exultant crowd of Maoris. j The attendance is estimated at I fifteen hundred. The weather was I cloudy, and rain began to fall just £t the close of the game. The Britishers are being entertained at a social and dance to-night, in the Assembly Hall.

AUCKLAND, July 21. With the exception of R. G. Deans (the Canterbury representative) the whole of the New Zealand team to play Britain on Saturday are now in Auckland. The team practised at Victoria Park this afternoon, and the men are all in tip-top form.
