MASTERTON BOWLING CLUB.
The following is the annual report to be submitted to the annual meeting of members of the Mastertcn Bowling Club on July 30th: —An increase of 20 members- has been the net rciult as regards the membership, and it is felt that the system inaugurated by the Match Committee yf encouraging young players, is largely responsible for this good result. The improvements carried nut for the past year ware of an important nature, the new green having been re-laid at a cost of £6O 0s 7d; the old green has received a good top dressing and it will be necessary to tar and sand the footways during the coming year. The financial position, as disclosed in the balance sheet, necessitates the Club taking into very serious consideration the question of finance. It is evident that the Club cannot get along without any revenue. How this is to be raised is a matter for every member to consider. Your Committee recommends that the subscription be raised to £2 2s per annum, and also that in view of the increased deficit of the past year, a levy ,of 21s per annum per member be made. Mrs Richards and her committee o* ladies, deserve and are hereby accorded, the best thanks' of the Club for the splendid services rendered by them in connection with the providing of afternoon tea. Our Club sent two teams to Auckland to compete for the Club Championship, held under the auspices of the North Island Bowling Association. In these teams were a number of nsw p'.ayers who gained experience winch should stand them in good stead in future
tournaments. Thanks are due to Messrs Grady, Coradine, Rose, Dupre Richards, Whittaker and Townsend for their gifts of trophies. Mr G. Townsend was the winner of the Championship Singles, whilst Mr A. McEwen was runner-up. The Handicap Singles was won •by Mr T. J. Thompson the runner-up being Mr J. K. Blinkhorne. Messrs T. Cresswell and J. Hunter were the winners of the "Pairs" trophy, Messrs Coradine and T. B. Hunter being a good second. Mr G. T. Seale having resigned his position as caretaker, Mr W. J. Denby was appointed to fill the vacancy, and is doing good work. It is felt that with continued good management and a larger degree of enthusiasm on the part of« members that the coming season can be made more successful than any previous one. It lies with each member to do his best towards this most desirable end.
