The Bishop of South Tolcio (the Right Rev. William Av/dry). in a letter to "The Times," s ys that the Japanese do not entertain the slightest idea of invading Australia, neither do they covet the Philippine?. The rumours of Japanese designs on Australia rest absolutely on nothing but the uneasy consciences of those who are keeping lands they cannot use themselves. It was, added the Bishop, certain that China and Japan would ultimately cdmplain at the palpable immorality of the idea that white men may penecrate the Far East, while Far Eastern nations must not penetrate Australia.
