Money is not coming in freely towards the citizens' fund for the entertainment of the American fleet. There is likely to bz a poor show so far as decorations are concerned.
A TRADE COMMISSIONER. Received July 15, 10.16 a.m. MELBOURNE, July 15. The Federal Prime xMinister, Mr Deakin, has received a cable announcing that the Board of Trade has appointed Mr C. Hamilton Wicks resident British Trade Commissioner in Australia.
SLAUGHTER OF DAIRY COWS,
Received July 15, 10.22 a.m. PERTH, July 15. As the result of an application of the tuberculin test, wholesale slaughter of cows belonging to the Metropolitan dairies is taking place. Twenty were destroyed out of twenty-nine in one dairy, while in four dairies forty-two animals were found to be unfit to supply milk for human consumption.
ACCIDENT TO A BARQUENTINE.
Received July 15, 10*.18 p.m. SYDNEY, July 15. The barquentine Salador, from Greymouth to Sydney, put into Trial Bay with her topmast carried away. She will resume her voyage after repairs have been carried out.
