Reginald Baker, Beaurepaire, Springfield, and Tartakover, were chosen, after a trial race, to represent Australasia in the Olympic games swimming teams championship of the world, E. J. Cooke being reserve man.
KERR GETS A THIRD PLACE
Received July 15, 12.17 p.m. LONDON, July 14. At the Olympic sports, Larner, a British competitor, won the 8,500 metres walking match, with Webb (Britain) second and Kerr (New Zealand) third. The winner's time was 14min 55stc. Rowlands, of New Zealand, who has been in England some time, was unsuccessful in his heat. Received July 15, 10.13 p.m. ( LONDON, July 15. Shep'pard, an American, won the 7,500 metres race in 4min 3 2-ssec. Lynch, of New South Wales, was beaten in his heat. Flanagan, an American, won the hammer throwing with 170 feet. Tartakover had a bye in the 400 metres swimming event. Cooke (New South Wales) was beaten in his heat. Beaurepaire won his heat in smin 49sec.
