DUTY ON TEA

In the House of Commons Mr Snowden's amendment to reduce the duty on tea to threepence as an instalment of the abolition of indirect taxation was negatived by 230 to Hi. Mr Snowden, who is Labour M.P. for Blackburn, said he could not see any difference between the duty on corn and the duty on tea. He warned the Government, that tariff reform was making headway. It would be difficult to oppose the taxation on manufactures while the duty on tea t.nd sugar was retained.
