UNEMPLOYED AT AUCKLAND.
BY TSIiEOBAPM—PBESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, July 15. An unemployed deputation, ac•companied by about 150 men, waited upon the Mayor this morning, and masked that work be provided for about that number on a municipal undertaking. They also urged that an indepenent officer should investigate the conditions under which the men are employed on Government •CJ-operative works. The Mayor said that the City Council was employing 250 men, which was aa many' as the weather •conditions permitted. He promised to consult the City Engineer and endeavour to employ a larger number of men as soon a3 the weather permitted, as soon as the Drainage Bill was passed by Parliament then work yipuld commence which would afford v wiployment for a good many men. The Mayor also promised to forward to the Premier their request :£or an investigation into the conditions of employment on co-oper-ative works.
