Mr A B. Charters has been elected captain of the Greytown Rifle Volunteer. Mr A H. Rothenberg has been appointed Honorary Dental Surgeon to the Mastertdn Hospital. Mr R. Essex, late Mayor of Palm■erston North,,is about to leave on a visit to England for the benefit of his /health. Lieutenant P. Brandon, of A . 'Squadron Her*»taunga Mounted Rifles has been appointed Adjutant of No 2 Regiment Wellington Mounted Rifles. A veteran soldier, formerly of the 65th Regiment, died at Marton lasc •week in the person of Mr J. Stamp. He was in his eighty third year The death is announced from Tapa■nuiof Mr Alex. Ross, farmer, and father of Mr Malcolm Ross, the well known Wellington journalist. The ■deceased was 82 years of age. On Tuesday evening Mr Gr°athead, of Parkvale, who has resigned the position of manager of the Parkvale -•~■'-Dairy Factory, after having held it :for seven years, was presented by the milk suppliers of the factory with a silver tea-set. Mr and Mrs J. D. C. Crewe, of Pahiatua, were among the passengers by the Rimutaka on her recent voyage to this country. They will be in EngX fliuntil October 15th, writes a Lorioon correspondent under date, ~June sth, when they will sail by the s.s. Arawa. Mr F. H. Wood, who was in business in Greytown North as an auctioneer for many years, and afterwards settled down in Tauranga, has at rived in England, via the Far East, pf t er an abstnee of 41 years. He has booked a passage to Wellington by the lonic, leaving London on the 23td instant.
