Wool —The Antwerp sales closed more animated, with a further rise, totalling 15 per cent, in merinos and 20 per cent, in croasbreds. seven thousand eight hundred and thirtyseven balc>3 of La Plata were offered and sold, besides 1,682 privately. Sheep —North Island- best brands, 3 11-lCd; .ither sorts, unchanged. Lambs —Unchanged. Beef—Fores, 2Jd; hinds, 4d. River Plate sheep— Unchanged. Riyer Plate beef—Fores, 213-16 d; hinds, 3 15-16 d. Received July 13. 9.20 a.m. LONDON, July 12. At tha periodical sales of leather, prices advanced gd. First Wellingtons, 19 l-9d. Basils, a halfpenny cheaper; first Wellingtons, 16id to 16|d. There was no demand for Australian hides and all were withdrawn.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissione , dated London, July 11th, 1908: - The mutton market is a shade weaker, and there is less demand. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 4d, and North Island at 3gd per lb. The lamb market is firm, notwithstanding large receipts, and no immediate change is expected. New Zealand lamb is quoted at sgd for Canterbury brands, and for other than Canterbury at o£d per lb. The beef market has declined, and supplies are increasing. Hindquarters are quoted at 4d, and forequarters at 2Sd per lb. The butter market is very firm. There is a good demand and no stock is accumulating, prospects for next season being encouraging. Choicest New Zealand brand-, are quoted at 115s, Danish 119s, Siberian 109s, and Canadian .115s per cwt. The cheese market is rather quiet. White makes are quoted at 645, and coloured at 58a per cwt. The hemp market is depressed, and transactions are high, heavy, shipment b.'ing expected from Manila. b'Uick h-li in London amounts to 706 tuns. The following are the current quotations:—Good fair grade on spot, £27; fair gradi on spot, £23 lbs; fair grade current Manila on stot, £23; July t> September shiomencs, goud fair grade, £26 10s; fair grade, £24; fair current Manila,
The cocksfoot seed market id quiet and very uncertain. Tne American crop is expected to be good. Bright clean 171b seed is quoted at 80s per cwt. nominal.
There is a great improvement in the wool market, although transactions are moderate pending London sales. The following are the current quotations for Bradford tops:—36's low croasoreds, lOd; 40 "s ditto, 10Jd; 44's medium, lljd; 50's haltbreda, la 3£d; 56' a, quarterbreds, Is 6id; 6L)'s merinos, Id lid. During the month of June the following arrived from the River Plate : —Mutton: London, 178,086; Liverpool, 18U.902; Hull, 9,057; NewcdotL-, 8,695; CarJiif, 4,692; Southampton, 1,566. Lamb: London. 24,556; Liverpool, 30,774; Hull, nil; Ne*cHht!u. 494; Cardiff, 301; Southampton, 230.
