INDIGENCY IN THE TRANSVAAL.
NUMBER OF POOR WHITES INCREASING.
COMMISSION'S REPORT. Received July 13, 9.50 p.m. PRE'iORIA, July 13. The Transvaal Commission, which was appointed to study the question of indigency, finds that the number of poor whites is increasing daily in the Transvaal. This is traceable to the following causes: — Prejudice of the entire community against manual labour. From i.'rimitive argicultural conditions. From c fixed idea that every countryman irust own land. The Co.nrnission recommend, inter alia: — The establishment of a lab.ur colony. The exclusion of undesirables. Prohibition of Asiatic immigration.
