NEW PEOPLE'S PALACE. BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, July 13. The Salvation Army's new People's Palace in Cuba Street was opened by the Prime Minister this afternoon. The building contains 96 bedrooms, with 134 beds, s»ven sitting rooms, and a large dining hall. The bedrooms occupy the two upper floors, and on the ground floors there are the dining room with seating accommodation for 160, office, officers'room, ladies' sitting room, smoke room, kitchen, scullery, lavatories, etc. All of the roums are beautifully furnished, and there are twelve bathrooms with hot and cold water. The People's Palace Hotel will not supplace the old Workmen's Hotel, which will be kept going for casuals and will provitie cheap beds and meals as in the past. The Palace Hotel will supply a superior class of accommodation. The fui.ds for the undertaking have been advanced from the Salvation Army Property Fund. Any profits will go to support the social work of the Salvation Army, and towards the upkeep of other homes that are not self-supporting. Lhe heads of all the departments will be Salvation Army officers. All the cooks and other employees will be paid at current Union rates.
