TRIANGULAR MATCHES,

AN APPEAL. LONDON, July 10. Sir J. Carruthers, ex-Premier of New South Wales, in a lettir to "The Times," pleads that the counties should review their decision. As a lover of the game and a lover of the Motheiland, he asks that the sentiment associated with the present single-handed contests be not set aside for a change that Australia does not want and does not understand, and which is not well founded on any sense of failure in the old order of things. He adds that if any change is desirable the * right initiation belongs t.o Australia as the holder of the ashes. The proposal to intrude a South African team is not agreeable to Australia, because South Africa had never accepted Australia's invitation for a visit. He admitted that Australia was unable to ignore the financial aspects of the matter .

MR G. JESSOP'S VIEWS

LONDON, July 10. Mr Gilbert Jessop, the Gloucestershire crack, writing in his private capacity, heartily supports the Hon. P. S. Jackson's views with regard to the Marylebone Club having virtually revoked the invitation to Australia to visit England next year.; By the terms of Friday's decision the club, he holds, has acted cavalierly. It has held a pi°tol at Australia's head, and he hoped Australians will dare the pistol to be snapped.

X MARYLEBONE CLUB'S ULTIMATUM.

LONDON, July 10. The secretary of the Board of Con trol has received a cable from the Marylebone Club, stating that in face of the action of the counties, the club regrets thfit it cannot offer" Australia a separate programme for next year. The secretary and Mr Frank Iredale consider the Board of Control is unlikely to alter its previous decision with regard to triangular contests.
