TORRENTS OF RAIN

MUCH DAMAGE DONE

Received July 10, 9.38 a.m. SYDNEY, July 10

There was an exceptionally severe thunderstorm, with torrents of rain and hail, in the metropolitan area during the night. It was especially bad in the western suburbs.

The hail—in some cases half-inch lumps-lay inches deep, and blocked the tram traffic. Much damage was done by flood water.

At the heights of the storm the Waverley tramsheds were struck by lightning and damaged.
