LABOUR CONGRESS.
IMPORTANT RESOLUTIONS. . Received July 10, 9.43 a,m.' BRISBANE, July 10. The I.ubOUf Conference determined that the Federal Labour party should not enter into an alliance with any other party. A proposal that the caucus should be given the right ot appointing a Labour Ministry, in the event of the party coming into power, was adopted. The demand for the nationalisation of the iron industry was reaffirmed after a lengthy debate. A compromise was reached on the question of "defence by division of the plank into two, the tirst plank providingf or a citizen defence force, with compulsory military training and an Australian-owned and controlled navy; the second that the military ar.d naval expenditure be allotted from direct taxation. Other resolutions favoured the adoptiun of penny postage throughout the Comtnonwealtn, and the reenaction of excise duties as taxation measures to replace the quashed "new Protection. - ' It was decided that the next conference be held at Hobart in 1910.
