ELITE SKATING RINK.

POSTER CARNIVAL,

The Elite Skating Rink was crowded with spectators and skaters last evening, when a Poster Carnival was held. A great amount of interest centred in the event, as some extremely original and many very attractive costumes had been prepared by participants in the poster competition. The wearers of fancy dresses were marshalled during the early part of the evening and torraed into a procession, when the audience had an opportunity of seeing to the best advantage the costumes worn. The effect was very striking, and the spectacle of the competitors—all good skaters—moving round the Hall to the music of the Masterton South Brass Band was exceedingly fine. There were all manner of ingenious advertising devices represented in costume form, not the least original being a man encased in a huge bottle, who represented a local aerated water firm. Another lad. representing a chaffeur, iwd a tiny motor car on skates lit by electric light, the whole idea being very well carried out. The first nrise for men was a tie between L. Cook (T. Dwyer and Co.) and A. Patchett (Wellington and Wairarapa Motor Co.), and for the ladies' prizes Miss M. Yorke (Madame Carle) was first, and Miss Fowler (Hendry and Buxton) second. Mr T. Brown, of Wangaebu, acted as judge. Amongst the firms represented were the following:— T. Dwyer and Co. (E. Cook), Wellington and Wairarapa Motor Co. (A. Patchett), Madame Carle (M. Yorke) Hendry and Buxton (D. Fowler), Bahia Cocoa (P. Bennett), Monkey Soap (L. Seorrar), B. Brodie (J. Scorrar), Atalana Tea (K. Seorrar), Hunter and Sons (A. Hunter), J. P.
