THE AMERICAN FLEET.
SAILED FOR NEW ZEALAND. Received July 8, 12.30 a.m. NEW YORK, July 8. Sixteen American battleships, commanded by Admiral Sperry, left San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon for New Zealand. The battleship Nebraska did not accompany the fleet, owing to an outbreak of scarlet fever on board. She will join the fleet at Honolulu, when out of quarantine. Received July 8, 12.5 p.m. MELBOURNE, July 8. The Commonwealth Government spends £30,000 in entertaining the American fleet.
