WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held at the County Offices, Carterton, on Saturday. There were present:— Crs Wm. Perry (chairman), T. V. Moore, R. G. Welch, F. Court, R. Barrer, D. Douglas, J. Strang and H. S. Mason. A letter was read from Mr R. P. R. Beetham, of Masterton, with reference to the putting in of a culvert on the Flag Point Road, stating that the culvert he asked permission to put in would not be recuired. 'The Council decided not to' oross the road with the ailvert. The FeatharSton County Council wrote with reference to expending a ratepayer's thirds on the Waiohine Valley road, and statad that the ratepayer in question wished his thirds "to be spent in the Featherston County. The same Council also wrote with respect to the alteration of the county boundaries, stating that the matter was being held over for consideration, until November next. Mr F. M. Reynolds, of Clareville, wrote complaining that certain culverts in Clareville were being frequently blocked up, and also that certain holes in the road required filling in. The Chairman moved, and Cr Barrer seconded, that the Engineer be instructed to attend to the matter, and also that any overhanging trees alongside the road be cut. Wi Whatakorari, of Te Wharnu, wrote applying for permission to erect a gate across the road on the boundary adjoining Mr Barter's property. Mr M. La very, solicitor, waited on the Council in support of the application. A complaint was read from Maika Matiaha regarding straying stock on , Te Wharau road. The settlers in Manga tar ere Valley wrote calling the Council's attention to the s k .ate of the Mangatarere Valley, caused by the filling being low in the centre. The settlers interested maintained that the road was very dangerous for wheel traffic. Cr Moore move:!, and Cr Welch seconded, that the attention of Bo'ifch and Company be colled to the state of the road, and that thev be asked to put it in order, in accordance with an agreement made dome time ago.' » Mr W. A. Harrick applied for permission to cut a drain along the mam road in front of his section number 135, to have an outfall into the existing drain in front of Mr Knutson's property. It was decided that the application be granted on the ordinary conditions. An application was received from Mr Hugh Long, of Masterton, for permission to erect a small boiling down works at the Masterton Abattoir. The application was granted, subject to the Health Officer's apprjvol.
