CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH.
CONGuESS TN LONDON.
LONDON, July 3. The Congregational Church Congress, on the motion of the Rev. John Fordyce, M.A , D.D., of Sydney, elected Sir Albert Srncer president. The Rev. A. Griffiths, of Queensland, was appointed one of the secretaries, and Rev. Mr Fordyce one of the vice-presidents. Sir A. Spicer urges the formation of an intelligence department, in order to keep abreast of the spirit and movement in other countries, and to encourage the adoption of forward movements. He advised more co-operation, even at the sacrifice of some independence. He admitted that the continuance of the education struggle would keep up a bitter SDirit, and was a great hindrance to the churches. Sir Albert advised a larger outlook, and a more positive note from the pulpit. The Chairman of the Scottish and British Congregational Unions welcomed the uversen delegates. Rev. Dr. Marshall, Moderator of the Church of Scotland, by request, addressed the Congress. Received July 5, 4.30 p.m. LONDON, July 4. At the Congregational Congress a paper was read by the Rev. Dr. Gosman on "Democracy, Labour and Socialism." Special reference was made to the Victorian sweating legislation. The Rev. Gosman said in the course of his remarks that society was never in less peril than to-day as the spirit of God was largely entering modern legislation.
