The Sir Ruper'» Clarke-John WrenMeynell and Guan Dramatic Company will appear at the Town Hall on Monday, July 13th. The drama chosen for production is the romantic historical play entitled, "A Beggar on Horseback," dealing with the Jacobite Rebellion in the reign of Gaorge I. The piece has been spoken of in the highest terms of praise by tha press of Sydney and Auckland, the only two cities where the play has yet been staged. The company is a strong one, and is headed by the favourite Australian actor, Mr Harcourt Beatty, and an English actress, Miss Madge Mcintosh, who has already made a warm favourite of herself in Australia, and more recently during the company's successful soaeo) in Auckland. One of the sensations in "A Beggar on Horseback" ia\i sword fight on a staircase. The lights are lowered, and in the semidarkness the dashing Due de Tourney (Harcourt Beatty) repels the ons aught of a horde of King George's j soldiers, Who rush the staircase, but! are swept back by a display of J swordmanship that never fails to] arouse intense enthusiasm amongst thj audience. The production i° under the capable direction of Mr Gasto i Mervale,, who also appears as Lord Petridge.. Minister to King George. The box plan will open at Mias Rive's on Tuesday morning.
